USA BO : ‘Baby’ takes an impressive start

This Friday, Telugu moviegoers witnessed a bold and hard-hitting romantic drama ‘Baby’. Made on a shoestring budget, the film secured encouraging word of mouth and positive reviews from its paid premieres and overseas shows. This resulted in good walk-ins on its first day in all territories. While the domestic numbers are quite solid, the overseas collections are equally impressive.

In USA, Baby took a flying start with strong numbers from Thursday premieres and on Friday. As per the latest trade estimates, the film grossed close to $ 170K by the end of the first day (Premieres – $ 90K and Friday – $ 80K). This is a phenomenal start for a small film and it is going to be a blockbuster first weekend. If the trend continues, the film is likely to emerge as a sensational hit in North America in its full run.

Baby stars Anand Devarakonda Viraj Ashwin and Vaishnavi Chaitanya in the lead roles. The soul-stirring performances with relatable characters did the magic for the film. Directed by Sai Razesh of Colour Photo fame, the film is produced by SKN.

As the stupendous run of Sree Vishnu’s Samajavaragamana is coming to an end, Baby will likely find strong patronage from the Telugu diaspora in USA. Samajavaragamana is going to end its gross close to the one million dollar mark.
