Akkineni Akhil’s forthcoming spy thriller ‘Agent’ is struggling to find buyers in the Hindi market. This is the real reason why the makers have decided to postpone its release in North India. Agent will now release only in Telugu and Malayalam on April 28th. Based on the box office result in these two languages, the fate of its release in other markets will be decided. During the press interaction on Saturday in Hyderabad, Akhil said that there are unable to find a perfect date in Hindi as Salman Khan’s film is releasing on April 28th. He clarified that the Hindi version will release a couple of weeks later.
Agent is initially planned as a pan-India project because of its universal content. This is why the production house spent a solid budget on its making. Unfortunately, the film failed to create any buzz in North India and other languages down South. After getting postponed a couple of times, the buzz on the Telugu version also started dwindling and it became difficult to find buyers at the prices quoted by its producers. The promotional content initially generated good hype for the film but it later lost steam due to the inordinate delay.
As April 28th is an ideal date, the makers have decided to go ahead with the release plans in Telugu and Malayalam, leaving aside other versions. It is going to be an uphill task for the film to recoup its investment just with these two versions alone. If it fails to garner good talk in Telugu, the performance in the Hindi market will be out of the discussion. The production house is now banking on the digital market to avoid cost failure even before its release.
Directed by Surender Reddy, Agent has Mamooty in a significant role. Sakshi Vaidya is the female lead. Anil Sunkara of AK Entertainment banner is the producer.
