Central Government’s U-turn on Vizag Steel plant

Friday, November 22, 2024

The Ministry of Steel released a press statement today stating that it is not going back on the privatization of Vizag Steel Plant, disappointing crores of Andhraites. Within one day, the Union Ministry has gone back on its own indirect promise.

The other day the Minister of Steel and Rural Development, Faggan Singh stated that the Center is not looking forward to privatizing the Vizag Steel Plant sending waves of happiness across AP and its people. Even Janasena President Pawan Kalyan expressed his joy over Twitter thanking the BJP-led Central Government. Not less than 24 hours after the statement from the Minister, today the Ministry of Steel declared that they are not stopping the privatization. In fact, it reiterated that the disinvestment on Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited is under process and the Express of Interest can be applied until tomorrow night. In other words, EoI would end on the 15th of April clearly stating that the bidders can still participate. As this is a major blow to AP, the BRS Government is trying its best to acquire the Steel Plant as they have Singareni Mines for the raw material to run it.

The YSRCP government and its leaders are fuming at BRS for its sudden love of the Steel Plant instead of going and holding talks with the BJP bigwigs to stop the privatization.
