RRR joins Rs. 100 crore club in Japan

There is no introduction needed for Rajamouli’s epic directorial RRR which stormed the theaters with humongous box office collections. Not just the home ground audience, the blockbuster drama gained popularity at the international level with its charm.

Like many other countries, RRR has also been released in Japan. The film got released in October of last year and has been thriving with box office collections ever since. Now, RRR has grossed Rs. 100 crores in Japan making it the first highest-grossing Indian film in the country.

Surpassing the previous records of Rajinikanth’s 1995 film Muthu, Ram Charan and Jr. NTR’s starrer has now stood tall as the highest Indian grosser in Japan. Previously, RRR was screened in around 210 theatres throughout Japan, with 31 of them being IMAX theatres. But due to the rising demand for RRR, the distributors have added another 27 IMAX screens in the country.

Meanwhile, apart from the worldwide collections of Rs. 1200 crores, RRR has also bagged several awards and accolades including the Golden Globe Award and the 95th Academy Award aka Oscar in the Best Original Song category for Naatu Naatu.

The Oscar for RRR which was received by the lead composer MM Keeravaani last month has been one of the proudest movements for Indian cinema.
