Natural star Nani’s rustic drama Dasara slowed down in the crucial first weekend after taking a dream start with record-breaking Wednesday premieres. The film’s total gross surpassed the $ 1.4 Million mark by Saturday evening and thereby entered the profit zone for its buyers. Dasara is now on track to emerge as the highest-grossing film for Nani in North America by surpassing his career biggest hit Jersey which collected $ 1.53 Million in its full run.
Dasara embarked on a phenomenal start with $ 638K from Wednesday premieres, the biggest opening for a medium-budget film. On Thursday and Friday, the film managed to collect a quarter of a million each with $ 262K and $ 252K respectively. Considering the strong start and the positive word of mouth, trade circles expected the film to perform better during the weekend. However, the numbers are relatively underwhelming with Saturday also contributing around $ 250K till evening. Nevertheless, this is a strong run considering the genre of the film and also the fact that it is helmed by a debutant. By the end of the first weekend, it is likely to collect around $ 1.7 Million. There are slight chances for the film to collect $ 2M if it manages a decent haul in the second week.
Despite slowing down after a strong start, Dasara will end as a profitable venture for all its investors. Nani has now got 8 Million dollar movies in North America and he is just behind Mahesh Babu who got 9 movies in the prestigious club. Dasara is also the second biggest overseas hit of Tollywood in 2023 after Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Sankranti release Waltair Veerayya. The Srikanth Odhela directional is having a good hold at the domestic box office as well during the first weekend. It collected more than 65 Crores gross worldwide in three days.
