One teacher for 48 students: A school’s status in A.P

Friday, September 20, 2024

Among many problems the AP Government is facing, education remains one of the biggest issues as the state lacks enough teachers, especially in primary and upper primary schools. A look at a school explains the situation of secondary education in Andhra Pradesh.

A primary school in Tallavalasa in the Srikakulam district has 48 students and it has only one teacher who is handling all the subjects. Even the infrastructure of the school is not satisfactory and they urge for some development & help from the state government. Not just this school but the reports given by the Telugu media, many schools lack teachers and some lack the proper infrastructure to deal with the students. Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has been implementing two schemes ‘Jagananna Vidya Devena’ and ‘Jagananna Amma Vodi’ but despite these schemes, the education sector is so bad within the state.

Experts point at the ruling party for not providing enough funds for the schools and also not releasing notifications for the recruitment of teachers, especially in primary schools. It’s high time for the CM and his government to look deep into the issue and set many basic things like education, health care, and agriculture right, or else it would even increase the anti-incumbency that is existing rather than just giving away freebies.
