Vijayawada: YSR Congress Party MP P.V. Mithun Reddy has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam. Identified as the alleged mastermind behind the irregularities, Mithun Reddy was listed as Accused No. 4 (A4) in the case. Following nearly seven hours of questioning at the SIT office in Vijayawada, officials formally took him into custody and informed his family members.
SIT officials interrogated the MP over his alleged role in drafting the state’s liquor policy, his links with shell companies, and the flow of bribe money to end beneficiaries. He was also questioned about private meetings he is believed to have held with key individuals. Investigators revealed that Mithun Reddy played a critical role in shifting the liquor supply system from a transparent online process to a manual method during the YSRCP regime — a move that allegedly facilitated large-scale corruption.
According to SIT’s legal counsel, witnesses have testified that Mithun Reddy designed and executed the scam, and material evidence supporting these claims has been collected. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had previously dismissed his anticipatory bail plea, and the Supreme Court rejected his special leave petition on Friday, clearing the way for his arrest.
