There was a ruckus over coffee in the AP Legislative Council meetings. Council Chairman Moshan Raju objected that there was a difference between the coffee served in the council and the assembly. YCP members protested that the same type of coffee and meals were not served in the legislature and the council.
YCP MLCs questioned whether members in the ruling coalition are given one type of coffee and tiffins and those in the council are not given another type of coffee and tiffins? This put the government in a bind. Speaking on this, Legislative Affairs Minister Payyavula Keshav explained that there is no difference in the coffee and meals served in the legislature and the council.
The minister assured that if small mistakes are made anywhere, they will ensure that they do not happen again. However, the YCP members continued their agitation. The YCP MLCs insisted that a discussion be held in the house on this issue and brought the house to a standstill. The Chairman adjourned the House for a while due to a serious chaos in the House.
The YCP’s insistence on a discussion on the quality of coffee has become a topic of discussion. Above all, the members of the Council, who should be discussing and debating public issues, are obstructing the House and agitating over the quality of coffee. This coffee brawl has become a topic of discussion in the context of criticism that valuable House time is already being wasted.
Meanwhile, as the Legislative Council meeting began in the morning, the Chairman took up the question and answer session. However, it was interrupted due to the agitation of the YCP members. The YCP protested demanding respect for the Chairman. The YCP members came to the House wearing black scarves, saying that it was an insult to the Chairman.
Though Minister Payyavula Keshav assured to discuss the issue in the Chairman’s chamber during the break, they were not pacified. The opposition leader Botsa Satyanarayana insisted that the meeting be held only after holding discussions first. In this process, there was a commotion in the house for some time.
Earlier, the YSRCP MLCs protested in the assembly premises wearing black scarves. They shouted slogans to protect the honor and constitutional rights of the council chairman. They kept shouting slogans from the gate to the office. On Friday too, they protested in the council, alleging that the government was disrespecting the chairman.
