The post-poll violence created by the YSR Congress party leaders and supporters in some parts of Andhra Pradesh seems to have alerted the Election Commission of India ahead of the crucial day of counting on which the results of the assembly and parliament elections will be declared. The intelligence department has already issued an alert about potential violence in the state after the declaration of results on June 4th. So, the ECI is planning to deploy additional security personnel to keep the situation under control until June 20th.
Besides this, the Election Commission has issued strict directives to the state police and election authorities to prevent any untoward incidents on June 4th. Reportedly, the EC is cautious of the fact that the YSRCP supporters might create a law and order issue on the day of the results. Hence, it has directed the state election commissioner and additional DGP to maintain strict vigil in the sensitive areas where there is a possibility of violence after the announcement of results.
The ECI reviewed the preparedness through a video conference earlier today and issued guidelines to the police department. The commission further warned the police superintendents of the Rayalaseema region to ensure that no violence ensues the results on June 4th.
The ECI made a serious note of the instigating speeches that are being made by some of the YSRCP leaders, who are stoking up the emotions of their supporters to create a law and order problem on the day of counting. The post-poll incidents in Palnadu district have marred rather peaceful elections in Andhra Pradesh. MLA of Macherla, Pinelli Ramakrishna Reddy, is already facing several cases for resorting to violence and damage of EVM on polling day. A similar situation may break out throughout the state if the YSRCP senses defeat once the counting starts in the morning on June 4th. Hence, the ECI is adopting a no-holds-barred approach to keep any such activities at bay.
