YSRCP Facing Existential Crisis At Ground Level

Monday, September 16, 2024

Barely three months after its drubbing in the assembly elections of Andhra Pradesh, yielding its power to NDA government led by TDP, Janasena and BJP, the once formidable YSR Congress party of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is facing an existential crisis at the ground level in most of the constituencies all over the state due to the mass exodus of its leaders in all cadres.

After the humiliating rout in both assembly and parliament polls where the party was relegated to 11 MLAs and 4 MPs, the YSR Congress party is now struggling to keep its flock together because many of its leaders feel that there is no future if they stay loyal to the party. Former MLAs like Kodali Nani, Vallabaneni Vamshi, RK Roja and some others have already shifted their base from Andhra in fear of arrests.

Meanwhile, prominent faces like Kesineni Nani, Revella Kishore Babu, Ali exited from politics after the embarrassing defeat. Former deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani who represented Eluru constituency gave a shock to the party high command with his unexpected resignation without giving any reason. He also gave up on the party membership and severed his association with the party with immediate effect.

While the top-rung leaders are sidestepping from party related activities and going into political oblivion, hordes of lower level party supporters are also shifting loyalties to TDP and Janasena as the YSR Congress party is appearing to be a sinking ship.

The latest setback to YSR Congress party is the resignation of Eluru Mayor Noor Jahan and her husband who are going to take shelter under the TDP very soon. This is a huge shock to Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party.

Many corporators, ZPTCs and MPTCs in several other districts and villages are defecting into the ruling parties, leaving YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party high and dry at a crucial time.
