Andhra Pradesh’s political scene is witnessing a big shift with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) losing powerful leaders after it suffered election defeats. Despite having a majority in the Legislative Council, the party is struggling to retain members, while the TDP-JSP-BJP state government is gaining momentum with its defections. Unexpectedly, YSRCP leadership has not made any attempts to halt these exits, while Jagan Mohan Reddy is preparing for district tours to revitalize the party presence.
In another blow, senior YSRCP leader and MLC Marri Rajasekhar has stepped down from his position, joining the list of growing defectors. A close confidant of Jagan Mohan Reddy and a popular political leader from Guntur district, Rajasekhar has been associated with the YSRCP since its inception. His resignation comes after the resignations of MLCs Pothula Sunitha, Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy, Karri Padmashree, and Jayamangala Venkataramana, whose resignations are awaiting approval.
With more leaders likely to withdraw, the YSRCP is finding it increasingly difficult to keep its political clout. At the same time, the ruling combine is tactically consolidating its grip, representing a fresh political realignment in the state.
