YS Sharmila, the PCC Chief, expressed her strong support for the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh today, highlighting her willingness to cooperate despite past policy differences. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Sharmila lauded the government’s timely response to recent events and also provided valuable suggestions for further action.
Sharmila emphasized the importance of social media as a tool for societal good but condemned how it is being misused by certain individuals and political groups. She criticized how some are using the platform for harmful, unethical purposes, disregarding decency and human values. The PCC Chief also expressed concern over the growing disrespect towards women, particularly those who challenge societal norms, stating that the mistreatment of women online is deeply troubling.
Sharing her personal experience, Sharmila revealed that she, too, has been subjected to online abuse. She condemned the individuals behind the offensive posts targeting her and her family. One such post insulted her by questioning her lineage and falsely claimed she wasn’t the daughter of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, causing her significant distress. Sharmila called for immediate legal action against those responsible for these defamatory and hurtful actions.
In a strong message, YS Sharmila confirmed she had filed a police complaint against V. Ravinder Reddy for posting offensive content about her and welcomed the arrests of those involved. She stressed that no matter which political party they belong to, individuals who engage in spreading abusive and harmful content must face the consequences. Sharmila urged the coalition government to take ongoing, firm action against online harassment to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
