In a fiery series of tweets, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy lashed out at current Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of failing to honor critical election promises. Jagan questioned, “Is there a greater betrayal than this? Is there a deeper deception than this?”
‘Talli Ki Vandana’ Scheme: A Broken Promise
He went on to accuse the TDP government of revoking the scheme, Talli Ki Vandana, under which financial aid was assured every year of ₹15,000 to every child. He also claims that Naidu did not provide what he promised to give while abolishing YSRCP-led Amma Vodi scheme through which millions of mothers and their children had begun to enjoy welfare.
“Despite holding numerous cabinet meetings, no concrete steps were taken to implement this crucial scheme. Mothers and children waited with hope, only to be let down as the program was shelved entirely for this year. Is this not a clear betrayal of trust?” Jagan questioned.
He cited his government’s successes through the Amma Vodi scheme, which benefited 44.48 lakh mothers and close to 84 lakh children, amounting to ₹26,067 crores released during his tenure. On the other hand, he attacked Naidu for not going ahead with the election promise of ₹15,000 per child each year, pointing out, “Even families having two or three children, who were promised ₹30,000 or ₹45,000, respectively, have been neglected going solely by the extravagant campaign hoardings.
Neglecting Farmers’ Welfare
Jagan also took aim at Naidu’s handling of agricultural welfare, highlighting significant delays in financial support under the Rythu Bharosa scheme.
“Farmers have endured both Kharif and Rabi seasons without receiving any promised assistance. While the government leaks statements to the media, not a single rupee has been delivered to struggling farmers,” he alleged.
Jagan contrasted this with the YSRCP’s performance, pointing out that his administration consistently provided ₹13,500 per year to 53.58 lakh farmers, totaling ₹34,378 crores. He further accused Naidu of failing to honor his pledge of ₹20,000 annual aid to farmers, adding, “There’s no input subsidy, no minimum support price, no crop insurance, and no compensation for grieving families of farmers who have tragically taken their own lives.”
Broken Promises and Rising Discontent
According to Jagan, Naidu’s government has failed on multiple fronts, leaving citizens disillusioned. Key unfulfilled promises include:
₹15,000 per child under Talli Ki Vandana.
₹20,000 annual aid for farmers.
₹18,000 for women above 18 years.
₹36,000 as unemployment allowance.
₹48,000 for women over 50 years.
Jagan further accused the TDP government of burdening citizens with escalating charges and rampant corruption in sectors like sand and liquor.
YSR Congress’ Commitment to the People
Jagan ended the sharp critique with a restatement of his commitment to stand behind the people of Andhra Pradesh.
“We will continue to stand by the people and hold this government accountable for its promises. The YSR Congress Party will tirelessly fight for the welfare of every citizen,” he declared.
As political tensions mount in the state, Jagan’s caustic remarks highlight his intent to brand the YSRCP as a party committed to the welfare of the people and to project TDP’s supposed failures ahead of the next elections.
Key Takeaways for Voters
Jagan’s pointed criticism emphasizes the need for accountability in governance. With a detailed comparison of promises versus delivery, he aims to resonate with voters and bring attention to what he sees as the TDP government’s failure to meet its commitments.
