The sixth conference of the World Telugu Writers’ Association, concluded in Vijayawada on Sunday evening, has resolved that at least primary education should be taught in Telugu to help the mental development of children, and that 5% reservation should be provided in government jobs as an incentive for those who studied in Telugu.

Dr. Poornachandu, General Secretary, placed 18 resolutions before the conference, which were approved by the assembly with thunderous applause. These resolutions were handed over to the State Culture and Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, who was the chief guest at the valedictory, requesting their implementation.

The conference asked the state government to take steps to implement the central government’s policy of teaching engineering, medicine, and other courses in the mother tongue. It demanded the government for immediate withdrawal of the special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court during the YSRCP regime on GO 85 issued by the previous government to suppress the Telugu language.

The conference suggested that arguments and judgments in the High Court should be in the mother tongue. Minister Kandula Durgesh said that efforts have been started to implement Telugu medium in all schools in the state from the primary level. He said that CM Chandrababu Naidu is positive about this.

He said that the Betini Library in Rajahmundry and the Andhra University Library in Visakhapatnam have contributed a lot to the development of our language and personality, and if they are developed as literary tourism centers, the interest in the language will increase in today’s children.

The Minister said that along with eco-tourism and wildlife tourism, literary tourism will be developed. He expressed his regret that we are not able to give the priority that other states are giving to our mother tongue. He suggested that not only the governments but also the civil society should play an appropriate role in preserving the language.

Durgesh said that it is the responsibility of parents to direct students who are immersed in social media towards reading books. The coalition government announced that it is ready to protect and promote the mother tongue, he added.
