IPS officer Vishal Gunni, who was one among three IPS officers suspended by the AP government in illegal detention and torture of Bollywood actress Kadambari Jethwani, has confessed that former Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu was the `mister mind’ behind the entire operation.
In his three-page written statement submitted to the department, he has reportedly admitted that he has only followed PSR directions, who has operated the entire episode from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Revealing that the case was not registered by the time it was assigned to him, he deplored that he was pressurized by PSR threatening that he cannot take over charge as DIG of Visakhapatnam, for which he was promoted and transferred two days before this issue, without completing this task.
He also said that their flight tickets for Mumbai were booked from Vijayawada Police Commissioner’s office, even before the case was registered. It is believed that Vishal Gunni’s testimony was said to be crucial in the suspension of three IPS officers.
Vishal Gunni, who was working as DCP of Vijayawada, said that he was transferred as DIG of Visakhapatnam range on January 29 by the then YCP government and took charge in Visakhapatnam in two days. But he was able to take charge only13 days later, on February 12, after completion of Kadambari’s arrest mission.
He said that exactly at that time PSR Anjaneyulu called him to the CMO and handed over the case of the Mumbai actress. Gunny stated in his statement that he was pressured to relieve him only after completing that assignment. During the investigation, it was found that between the orders of PSR and the matters of posting as DIG, Gunny succumbed to their pressure and acted beyond the limits.
It is learned that Gunny stated in his testimony that PSR himself supervised every aspect of this case and he was the one who gave orders. According to the PSR strategy, fake documents were created to facilitate the receipt of complaints and registration of cases against the Mumbai actress.
A lawyer from Prakasam district played a key role in its preparation of fake documents. The lawyer met the then police commissioner Kanti Rana Tata several times on January 31, February 1 and 2. It is known in the inquiry report that the call data records of the PSR and Kanti Rana have been found on the phone several times.
On February 2, the task force ADCP Ramanamurthy, CI Sridhar and SSI Sharif took a flight from Vijayawada to Mumbai at 7.30 am to arrest the Mumbai actress. Gunny joined them in Hyderabad. All traveled in the same plane and went to Mumbai.
On the same day at 11:30 in the morning, YCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar left Hyderabad for Mumbai in another flight. Gunny, his team and Vidyasagar all met together in Mumbai on the evening of the 2nd and strategized. Through Vidyasagar they got to know movements of the Mumbai actress and arrested her on the way while she was traveling in a car.
