Retired YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Vijayasai Reddy is in a new legal crisis in Andhra Pradesh. After retiring from politics to take up farming, Reddy has been called by the police in connection with an investigation into a massive liquor scam said to have been committed during the previous YSRCP government’s term. He has been ordered to report for questioning at the Vijayawada Commissioner’s office on the 18th of this month.
The case is about the opposition parties’ charges against the YSRCP government of indulging in a big liquor scam. The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the issue as a response. Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy, popularly known as Raj Kasireddy, who was the IT advisor of the YSRCP government, is one of the important persons identified during the investigation. In spite of being served multiple summons, Raj Kasireddy has not appeared, and in this regard, the authorities conducted searches at his home and office locations in Hyderabad yesterday.
Vijayasai Reddy, in previous statements, had named Raj Kasireddy as the key player in the liquor scam and had suggested giving more information in the future. The SIT has now served a formal notice to Reddy to appear for interrogation. Whatever information he comes up with can possibly reveal the truth behind the controversial liquor scam, which is under great scrutiny.
This latest development in the probe places another layer over the existing legal woes of prime players in the YSRCP, and the results of the interrogation could go a long way in unmasking the complete extent of the suspected scam.
