Union Home Ministry slams Revanth govt’s Non-Response on Flood Relief

Thursday, September 19, 2024

The Union Home Ministry has lemented Revanth Reddy government for its non-compliance on flood relief activities, though the Center has been extending all the needful assistance. It has deployed 7 NDRF teams along with boats and lifesaving supplies to provide assistance to the flood affected people.

It has also sent two helicopters to participate in relief and rehabilitation activities. However, the Union Home Ministry has deplored that no official report has been received by the control room regarding the disaster situation in the state.

The State Accountant General has informed that there is Rs.1,345.15 crores in the State Disaster Response Fund account as on April 1 this year for carrying out necessary relief programs during notified floods and calamities in the state. But, it deplored that the state government has not submitted the necessary information for the release of central share under this fund in this financial year.

The state government should provide information to the Union Home Ministry and Finance Department every April and October about the amount received for the schemes implemented under SDRF along with the state share. The first installment for 2024-25 is Rs. 208.40 crores is due on June 1 this year.

The state government did not make any appeal to release those funds. Moreover it did not send details on the utilization of earlier released funds, accumulated interest on these funds, and utilization verification documents. The Home Ministry asked the state to submit details even now as per the prescribed procedure and should be sent to the Expenditure Department under the Union Finance Ministry as soon as possible.

The Union Home Ministry has informed the State Chief Secretary that only the first tranche of the central share of the SDRF funds for 2024-25 will be released.

Meanwhile, BJLP leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy said that two central teams will soon visit the state and conduct an aerial survey. Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that they are directly providing assistance. He said that BJP leaders and ranks are participating in relief activities in the flood affected areas. Based on the report provided by the state government, the center will provide adequate assistance, he said.
