Tuni Municipal Vice Chairman Election postponed once Again

Thursday, March 27, 2025

The Tuni Municipal Vice Chairman election. The election, which has already been postponed twice, was postponed again on Tuesday. TDP councilors came to the meeting in the morning for the election of the Municipal Vice Chairman. But the YSRCP councilors did not attend. TDP councillors alleged that a majority of the YSRCP councilors supported them, which is why former YCP minister Dadishetti Raja kidnapped the YSRCP councilors.

They were furious that the councilors were secretly detained in the YSRCP chairman’s residence. TDP leaders protested, saying that the party leaders themselves prevented the YSRCP councilors from coming. A tense atmosphere once again arose as the YSRCP councilors tried to go to the hiding place by pushing the barricades set up by the police.

The police blocked the TDP ranks as there was a possibility of clashes between the two factions. The police tried to lathicharge the people as the situation was likely to deteriorate. 29 councilors, including an ex-officio member, were supposed to attend the election. While a minimum of 14 people were supposed to attend for the quorum, only 10 members from the TDP attended.

The election officials announced that the election would be postponed due to lack of quorum. The officials said that they would take the matter to the attention of the State Election Commission after it was already postponed three times. The TDP councilors criticized the YSRCP leaders for playing dramas to prevent them from attending the election even though they were ready for the election due to fear of defeat.

Cases have been registered against Dadishetti Raja and 10 others for the detention of the councilors. Dadishetti Raja called for Chalo Tuni on Monday. However, the police issued warnings that Chalo Tuni did not have permission. Keeping in mind the tension that occurred on Monday, the police have tightened security. Section 163(2) is in force in the Tuni municipality. Kakinada Collector Shan Mohan has issued orders to this effect.

Restrictions have been imposed on meetings, gatherings and gatherings of more than five people. A ban has been imposed on carrying sticks, stones and weapons. In this context, YSRCP leader Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy and former MP Vanga Geetha, who were going to Tuni in a car with their followers, were stopped by the police and sent back.
