Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, MLA of the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh from Mangalagiri constituency, resigned from the assembly and the party today morning citing personal reasons which he said would be revealed very soon.

This development has come as a big blow to the Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government as the assembly elections are due in just four months. Moreover, the fact that he represented the constituency which is close to Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh holds big significance as there has been widespread remonstration among the residents ever since the present government floated the three capitals concept.

Reddy submitted his resignation to the OSD of the speaker earlier today and requested to accept it immediately. Reportedly, he is not happy with the way the high command has been dealing with him for the past few months.

Recently, Ganji Chiranjeevi, an active leader of Mangalagiri from the YSRCP has been handed over the incharge duties of the party in the constituency. Irked by the unfair treatment, ARK decided to leave the party. Moreover, there is a talk that he wouldn’t be considered for the upcoming elections as there is a lot of antipathy towards him among the locals. So, he decided to quit the party.

In 2019, ARK with a decent majority over Nara Lokesh, son of former Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu. He also hogged the limelight even before the YSRCP came to power because he filed innumerable cases against the previous government over Amaravati lands issues.

Reddy was with the Congress party during Rajasekhar Reddy’s tenure as CM in 2004 and 2009. He joined the YSRCP immediately after Jagan launched the party in 2011.
