Telangana ministers urges Center for immediate floods assistance of Rs 11,713 crore

Telangana  Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Government Special Representative AP Jitender Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday and  requested the Central Government to provide immediate assistance in the wake of the recent heavy rains in Telangana, which have caused loss of crops, property and lives.

While presenting a preliminary estimate of Rs. 5018.72 crore due to floods, they reminded that despite the request for assistance of Rs. 11,713 crore due to heavy rains in Khammam and surrounding districts last year, funds have not been released so far. Including that amount, they submitted a request for the immediate release of a total of Rs. 16,732 crore.

They urged the Union Home Minister to consider the situation as a national disaster. The ministers said that the Union Minister responded positively to this request and assured that a team of Central Government officials would be sent to Telangana soon to assess the losses. The preliminary assessment report on the flood damage in seven districts including Kamareddy and Nizamabad in the state was submitted to Amit Shah.

“Heavy rains lashed Telangana between August 25-28, 2025. Floods especially occurred in Kamareddy, Medak, Nirmal and Nizamabad districts, causing massive destruction. Infrastructure in these districts was severely damaged. The rainfall recorded so far in the state is 25 percent more than normal. Eight districts have received 65 to 95 percent excess rainfall”, they said.

As the rains continued, government and private properties, they said that crops, livestock and human lives were lost. The ministers said  that 7 NDRF, 15 STRF teams and about 100 military personnel are participating in the relief operations. They said that the loss of life has been reduced as much as possible with field monitoring.

However, due to the intensity of the rains, infrastructure such as roads, railway tracks, culverts, electricity poles and transformers have been severely damaged. They expressed their concern that normal life has been disrupted across the state.

They expressed their concern that according to preliminary estimates, 22 deaths have occurred in the state so far. The team of ministers explained that the assessment of deaths of dairy cattle, house losses and crop losses is ongoing.
