The High Court of Telangana directed the Chief Secretary of Telangana, Somesh Kumar to immediately shift to Andhra Pradesh as a part of its sensational verdict on a curious case regarding bifurcation. The CS of KCR’s government has got three weeks to shift his base.
For those who are perplexed regarding the verdict, there is a big back story for this entire case. When the United AP was bifurcated into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the bifurcation Act 2014 came into existence with tons of rules splitting assets, funds, and governance between the two states. Among those was the transfer of Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to work for the Andhra Pradesh Government but the CS approached the Central Administrative Tribunal and got the clearance to remain in Telangana. However the new Union Government challenged this in the High Court of Telangana and after all these years of arguments, the HC finally gave its verdict against the CS.
The new bench of Telangana HC heard the arguments of both sides and felt that the CS belongs to the cadre of the Andhra Pradesh government and gave three weeks to respond and relocate. Observers opine that since Somesh won’t get the same CS cadre in AP Govt, chances are he would ask his Chief Minister KCR to approach the Supreme Court of India to challenge the HC’s verdict.
