The High Court of Telangana has given its final verdict on a long-time impending case on the sitting MLA of Kothagudem, Vanama Venkateshwara Rao today. The HC disqualified Vanama and made the opponent Jalagam Venkat Rao the new MLA.
Going into the details, the sitting MLA of Kothagudem Vanama Venkateshwara Rao won in the 2018 elections on a Congress ticket over the BRS candidate Jalagam Venkat Rao but the latter registered a case on the winner stating that the MLA has given incomplete and improper details to the Election Commission regarding his and his wife’s assets for the Form 26. The case which was in progress came to a verdict and the Chief Justice Radha Rani declared that the MLA did breach the EC rules by giving improper details by intentionally hiding his properties. The Bench also made the runner-up Jalagam as the new MLA of Kothagudem the rightful legislator. This is indeed a shocker to Vanama who is almost on the verge of completing his term as the MLA.
The BRS responded on this issue and declared that the disqualification of Vanama would not affect the party’s prospectus at all and would again secure the constituency of Kothagudem. Now that Vanama who won on a Congress ticket and later shifted his loyalties to the BRS got disqualified, the Chief would again give a chance to Jalagam for the 2023 polls.
