The Telangana government and the University of Hyderabad (UoH) are in a standoff over the Kancha Gachibowli lands that the government wants to auction. While the government is busy leveling the lands with about 50 excavators day and night, the UoH students are intensifying their agitation, claiming that the lands belong to the university and that they should be handed over to them.
The students, who had been blocking the leveling programs from Sunday morning to night, approached various political parties on Monday. The BJP and BRS parties supported them. They demanded that the government immediately stop the auction. In this context, the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has revealed evidence that the lands belong to the government.
It issued two statements on Monday morning and evening. It has claimed that the disputed lands have been acquired by the UoH from the joint Andhra Pradesh government, and in return, the government has transferred 397 acres to the university. It was said that the then university registrar signed it. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released the relevant copies.
However, the UoH Registrar denied the TGIIC’s statement that 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli belonged to the government. He clarified that no survey was conducted by the revenue officials on the university campus in July 2024 to identify the 400 acres of land.
The registrar made this statement shortly after the state government announced that the lands had become the property of the government after a court victory that claimed ownership of 400 acres in Kancha Gachibowli, Serilingampally mandal of Rangareddy district.
The government said that the TG ICC Zonal Manager had emailed the University of Hyderabad Registrar on July 18, 2024 at registrar@uohyd.ac.in regarding the survey, and with the consent of the HCU Registrar, a survey was conducted on July 19, 2024 in the presence of university officials, university registrar, university engineer, university executive engineer, revenue officials, revenue inspector, and mandal surveyor and the boundaries were determined on the same day.
However, the UoH Registrar recently rejected this announcement made by the government. It stated that only a preliminary examination of the land has been done so far. It has been stated that no survey has been done till now.
The university has also denied the recent TGIIC statement that appeared in the press. It has been stated that if any transfer of land allotted to the university is to take place, it will be done with the official consent of the university executive council.
The Registrar said in his statement that the University Executive Council has not taken any decision on the transfer of lands till now. In this regard, the University Administration has appealed to stakeholders and media representatives not to spread or publicize any information that is not verified by the University.
