Telangana Government To Form Committee For Women’s Safety Initiatives

Telangana State Women’s and Child Welfare Minister Dr. Dhanasari Anasuya Seethakka announced that the government will soon form a committee to ensure the safety of women across the state. On Tuesday, the Minister reviewed the measures to be taken for women’s safety during a meeting at the Secretariat. She stated that a special drive for women’s safety will be launched soon.

The Minister discussed the strategies for the special drive with Women’s and Child Welfare Department Secretary Vakati Karuna, SERP CEO Divya Devarajan, Women’s Safety Division DG Shikha Goel, and DIG Rema Rajeshwari. She suggested preparing both short-term and long-term plans. The Minister expressed concern over the increasing harassment of women in their own homes and by close acquaintances. She emphasized the need to empower victims to speak out publicly and mentioned that plans will be developed to change societal thinking.

Awareness campaigns will be conducted in educational institutions and other organizations. The Minister also stated that preparations are underway to establish a high-level committee comprising women ministers and senior officials. Additionally, the government plans to involve self-help groups in efforts to enhance women’s safety. The Minister noted that there are 6.3 million members in women’s groups and that social action committees will be formed at the village level with their participation.

The meeting also decided to conduct awareness programs for men to prevent harassment of women. The importance of respecting women and the consequences of committing crimes should be taught from a young age, and these topics should be included in educational curricula. The Minister concluded by stating that another meeting will be held soon to further discuss this issue.
