In a major follow-up to the controversy surrounding the Hyderabad Formula E Race, the Telangana Government has taken one step ahead – it filed a caveat petition in the Supreme Court. Barely a couple of days prior to this decision, the High Court of Telangana had already rejected a quash petition put forth by K.T. Rama Rao alias KTR working president of BRS who sought cancellation of an ACB case instituted against him. According to the judgment from the High Court, KTR is to move to the Supreme Court to apply for a stay on any likely arrest.
Government’s Strategic Caveat
The government’s caveat ensures that its arguments will be heard before the Supreme Court makes any decisions favoring KTR. By filing the petition, the state has clearly signaled its intent to actively pursue the case and prevent ex-parte orders.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement
The case revolves around alleged financial mismanagement during the organization of the Formula E Race under the previous administration. Reports claim that ₹55 crore was transferred to foreign accounts without requisite approvals. KTR has been named as the prime accused (A1) in the case, with Municipal Department Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar listed as the second accused (A2) and HMDA Special Chief Engineer BLN Reddy as the third accused (A3).
High Court’s Decision
KTR had earlier sought relief by filing a quash petition in the Telangana High Court, which temporarily stayed his arrest. However, the High Court dismissed the petition, lifting the stay, and allowing the case to proceed. Following this, KTR has been consulting with legal advisors at his residence in Hyderabad’s Nandinagar. He is expected to file an appeal in the Supreme Court after reviewing the High Court’s detailed judgment.
Intensified Investigations
In parallel, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has ramped up its investigation. Officials have conducted searches at the Hyderabad and Vijayawada offices of Greenko and Ace GenNext, which are linked to the case. Residences of co-accused Arvind Kumar and BLN Reddy have also been raided as part of the probe.
Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stepped in by filing a separate case under FEMA violations. The ED has issued fresh summons to KTR, asking him to appear for questioning on January 16.
Conclusion
The Formula E Race case has now reached a critical juncture, with both legal and investigative actions intensifying. As KTR prepares to approach the Supreme Court, the government’s caveat highlights its determination to ensure the case is thoroughly examined.
