Thursday, November 7, 2024
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy convened a high-level review meeting at his residence today to discuss the implementation of a caste census for Backward Classes (BC) in the state. Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Raja Narasimha, Sridhar Babu, along with senior officials, participated in the meeting. The primary agenda focused on deliberating the Telangana High Court’s recent directives concerning the BC caste census.
The High Court’s ruling came after BC community leader R. Krishnayya petitioned for a special commission to oversee the census. Responding to Krishnayya’s request, the court ordered the Telangana government to review the proposal without delay and mandated a decision within one week.
In compliance with the court’s instructions, Chief Minister Reddy consulted with cabinet colleagues on the matter and directed officials to take immediate action by tomorrow. Specific guidelines were issued to initiate the formation of a special commission dedicated to the caste census. CM Reddy reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accurately assessing the demographics of backward communities in Telangana. TPCC leader Mahesh Kumar Goud was also in attendance at the meeting.
