The much awaited Telangana cabinet expansion around Ugadai seems to be postponed for the time-being. While the party leadership failed to build up consensus on it, the fear of possible by-polls in the state if the defected MLAs are disqualified, said to be makes both the Congress and BRS in tension.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on the disqualification case of MLAs. With this, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders are fearing that they may be forced to face by-polls sooner or later. In order to get prepared for it, his government is taking steps towards key decisions.
Meanwhile, former chief minister and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao is also holding a series of meetings with party leaders on the plea of preparing for the party’s silver jubilee celebrations. Revanth and KCR are preparing new strategies for the election campaign in the state.
In Telangana, BRS leaders have approached the Supreme Court to disqualify the MLAs who joined the Congress from BRS. The hearing in this case has been completed. The verdict has been reserved. Revanth’s comments in the Assembly on the same issue were also mentioned during the hearing.
Now, BRS is saying that by-elections are inevitable. While the Supreme Court’s decision is becoming tense, the Revanth government is taking steps towards another key decision. They are saying yes to the local body elections campaign in the state.
It seems that Revanth is planning to go to the polls with 42% reservation for BCs. It seems that the government is planning to hold Sarpanch, MPTC, ZPTC and Municipal in July. It seems that various arrangements are being discussed. The government is planning to hold elections for MPTC, ZPTC and municipalities first and then hold Sarpanch elections in the panchayats.
However, it is reported that the officials are suggesting that the Sarpanch elections should be held first. It has been more than a year since the term of Sarpanchs in the villages has ended, and the 15th Finance Commission funds due from the Center have also been delayed by more than Rs. 1,500 crore.
They explain that if the Sarpanch elections are first held and the details of the respective governing bodies are reported to the Center, there will be a chance of getting the funds that have been stalled.
