The Telangana state government has decided to implement 42% reservations for BCs and only then go for local body elections. As part of this, the law brought in the Panchayat Raj Act 2018 regarding reservations should be amended soon, and in addition, the cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy decided to implement 42% reservations for BCs through an ordinance.
After the cabinet meeting, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Jupally Krishna Rao, Vakiti Srihari and Adluri Lakshman explained the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting to the media. The ministers said that in the cabinet meeting, taking the advice and suggestions of the Advocate General, it was decided in the cabinet to implement 42 percent reservation for BCs and go to local bodies to avoid any complications in the future.
They said that in accordance with the orders of the State High Court, they took the advice of legal experts in good faith and decided to provide 42 percent reservation to BC brothers as promised. They said that the cabinet has decided to take further steps to implement 42 percent reservation for BCs based on the available empirical data and population.
They said that to finalize the reservations of BCs, the village panchayat level will be considered as a sarpanch election, the MPTC election as a mandal unit, the MPP and ZPTC elections as a district unit, and the ZP chairman as a state unit.
They said that the cabinet has approved the conversion of Amity Educational Institution and Centenary Rehabilitation Educational Institution, which are famous all over the country, into universities. The ministers said that a provision has been made to allocate 50 percent of the seats to students from the state in Amity Educational Institution.
The cabinet has decided to form a committee with three officials headed by the Chief Secretary of the government on the establishment and management of modern cowsheds in the state. They said that the committee has set a deadline for this committee to submit its report before the next cabinet meeting.
The ministers said that there are 306 cowsheds across the state, and that there is less space in those cowsheds, there are more cows and they do not have proper facilities, and it was decided to construct modern cowsheds in this context, and the cabinet has decided to acquire land for them.
