Hyderabad: In a significant decision, the Telangana Cabinet has approved the removal of the existing two-children rule for candidates contesting local body elections. The move involves repealing Section 21(3) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, which currently restricts individuals with more than two children from contesting in local elections.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The cabinet also approved plans to amend the Panchayat Raj and Municipal Acts through an ordinance, streamlining the process to implement the changes ahead of upcoming local elections.
Apart from the legislative amendments, the cabinet discussed key infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of the SLBC tunnel. These decisions reflect the government’s focus on both electoral reforms and critical development initiatives in the state.
