The Telangana cabinet has approved a major amendment to the eligibility criteria for local body elections, removing the provision that disqualified candidates with three children. With this change, individuals with three children will now be eligible to contest in local elections.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat, was briefed to the media by Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. The government also approved land allotments across various sectors and announced that support prices for crops will include bonuses for farmers.
In the education sector, the cabinet cleared the establishment of three new agricultural colleges in the state. Additionally, 50% of seats at NALSAR University will be reserved for local students, with the government providing an extra seven acres to the institution. The cabinet also decided to procure the entire paddy yield from farmers, assuring that purchases will be made even if the central government does not intervene.
To mark two years of governance, the state government will hold celebratory events and has formed a cabinet sub-committee to oversee them. A separate committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary, has been constituted to closely monitor and evaluate the second phase of the metro project.
