The Telangana BJP has made a decisive move regarding the demolition of encroachments on lakes and drains. While the party acknowledges the need for demolitions targeting large-scale illegal constructions, it has drawn a line when it comes to demolishing properties of the poor. The BJP has expressed that it will not tolerate demolitions affecting the lower-income sections of society. On Monday, BJP leaders held a crucial meeting to address Hydra’s ongoing demolition drive, with participation from senior leaders and district presidents from Rangareddy, Medchal Urban, and Rural districts.
During the meeting, the BJP demanded action against officials who had authorized constructions on encroached lands. The party also called for alternative arrangements for the poor holding pattas in flood-prone areas. The BJP warned that it would not remain silent if Hydra’s demolitions were targeted at opposition members, but it supported demolitions of illegal constructions by influential figures. The party asserted its readiness to engage in legal battles if the demolitions impact the property of the poor and middle class.
The BJP has tweeted allegations of illegal constructions at Sulkam Lake, attaching satellite images showing agricultural land in 2012 and the presence of Fatima Owaisi College in 2024. The tweet revealed that Fatima Owaisi is the daughter of MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. The BJP questioned whether the Revanth Reddy government had the courage to take action against these constructions.
