In Hindupur Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna took a bold step, showcasing his growing political clout, even surpassing his brother-in-law, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
The contest for the Chairman of Hindupur was highly competitive. Balakrishna played a pivotal role in bringing TDP to victory. In the keenly contested elections, Ramesh, the TDP candidate, won the much-coveted Chairman’s seat.
Balakrishna’s active involvement in the election was pivotal to TDP’s success. He effectively ensured party unity, preventing defections, and closely supervised the campaign strategy. He had already won over eight YSRCP councillors to join TDP, taking proactive measures to prevent them from returning to their former party.
Across the state, elections for mayors and chairpersons in various municipalities and corporations were also taking place. However, the election in Hindupur held special significance, especially since former Chairperson Indraja made a strategic shift from YSRCP to TDP in August, giving TDP a stronger foothold. As a result, TDP now controls 23 councillors, while YSRCP’s presence in the council has dwindled to 17.
The tense election atmosphere saw both TDP and YSRCP camps rallying their supporters. Ultimately, TDP triumphed with 23 votes, while the YSRCP candidate, Lakshmi, could only secure 14 votes, sealing a decisive victory for TDP in the Municipal Chairman election.
