Former chief minister and YCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy has targeted Kuppam during his regime making strategic efforts to defeat Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in the last year’s Assembly elections, from where he has been electing since 2019. In a retaliation move, this time TDP is making a move to destabilize Jaganmohan Reddy’s political fortress Pulivendula.
It may be recalled that beginning from 1978, only Jaganmohan Reddy family members were winning from Pulivendula and TDP failed to make a breakthrough in the constituency since its inception. However, this time Chandrababu Naidu seems to be determined to defeat Jaganmohan Reddy in the next polls and is making efforts to strengthen the party base in the constituency.
Already TDP succeeded in making a bold presence felt by winning all water user societies unopposed and the YSRCP failed to make their presence felt. Now, the TDP has been making a move to hold its next Mahanadu, party’s annual conference in Pulivendula next May. If TDP moves ahead in this regard, this is likely to bring a far-reaching change in the political equations of the Rayalaseema region as a whole.
TDP’s decision to organize Mahanadu in Jaganmohan’s own constituency will be considered throwing a massive political challenge to him. The party’s goal seems to be to show what the TDP is capable of mobilizing public support in Jagan’s fortress itself. It is no exaggeration to say that it will fill the party workers with enthusiasm and send strong political signals to the rival party YSRCP.
Chandrababu Naidu is likely to announce the party’s future plan at the Mahanadu venue and the strategies to be followed to lead the state on the path of development by 2047. It seems that the Mahanadu is likely to be organized with the aim of attracting the attention of the people of the state cautioning them against the possibility of revival of YSRCP influence in the state.
After coming to power under the leadership of Chandrababu, the construction work of the capital Amaravati was accelerated. Steps were taken to solve the irrigation problems of the farmers. Although Jagan has been criticizing the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Chandrababu Naidu government is moving forward in coordination with the Center to implement this project effectively.
On the one hand, by focusing on the development of the state and the Rayalaseema region, it is understood that the TDP is taking steps towards gaining a foothold in former CM Jagan’s own district, Kadapa, by the next elections. It remains to be seen how the YSRCP faces the political challenges of the TDP.
