AAP Rajya Sabha member and former Chairperson of Delhi Women’s Commission Swati Maliwal sought intervention of INDIA block stalwarts to rescue her from h incessant attacks on my character and victim shaming orchestrated by the leaders and volunteers of her own party.”
She wrote personal letters seeking appointments to discuss these issues. She has written to NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, the Congress’s Rahul Gandhi, the Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Uddhav Thackeray and the Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav. While all the parties are constituents of the Opposition INDIA bloc, AAP is also part of it.
In her letter she stated that, “As you may be aware, I have headed the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for over 8 years. During my tenure, the Commission handled more than 1.7 Lakh complaints of crimes against women and children… Unfortunately, after becoming a Member of Parliament, I was assaulted by the PA of the Chief Minister of Delhi at his residence on 13 May, 2024”.
Further she added, “Following this traumatic incident, I took the necessary step of filing a police complaint. Regrettably, instead of finding support, I was confronted with incessant attacks on my character and victim shaming orchestrated by the leaders and volunteers of my own party.”
Maliwal alleged last month that she had been assaulted by Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar, when she had gone to the chief minister’s home to meet him. She filed a police complaint three days later, alleging that no action had been taken against Kumar despite assurances from the party. Kumar is under judicial custody.
Maliwal also alleged that she had been receiving “multiple rape and death threats” since the AAP started a “smear campaign” against her in “electronic and social media to undermine my reputation, character and credibility”.
“Today, I have written a letter to all the big leaders of the INDIA alliance regarding this matter. I have asked for an appointment with everyone,” she wrote alongside the post.
