In an important legal development, the Supreme Court took a giant step closer to the petition filed in the illegal assets case involving the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The cause of action behind the petition filed by TDP MLA Raghurama Krishnam Raju has resulted in a significant decision taken by the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna. And thus, the case has been transferred to some other bench for its further hearing, which again is another twist of this long saga.
Raghurama Krishnam Raju was also a former MP of the YSRCP, who voiced his disagreement with the party leadership and thus filed two petitions in the Supreme Court. In the first petition, he had sought cancellation of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s bail in the illegal assets case, while the second petition was to transfer the case from the Hyderabad CBI court to an outside state. Initially, these cases were placed before the bench headed by the Chief Justice of India.
But within no time, new hearings were indeed about to start as Justice Sanjay Kumar, who happened to be part of the same bench which heard the initial pleas, pointed out that he could not continue to hear the case, and it was tagged along with the rest of the petitions to a new bench led by Justice Abhay Oka. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna decided to transfer the petitions to a bench led by Justice Abhay Oka. With the Supreme Court registry now scheduling a hearing for December 2, legal progress of that case will stand adjourned until then.
