The Supreme Court has dealt a setback to the close associates of former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the AP Liquor Scam. The Apex Court has refused to grant interim bail to Krishnamohan Reddy, Dhanunjay Reddy and Balaji Govindappa in this case. The bench made it clear that it will not interfere as there is a hearing in the AP High Court on the 7th of this month.
Saying that if the AP government want to arrest these three, they can do so, the Supreme Court has adjourned the next hearing to the 8th of this month. Accused K. Dhananjaya Reddy, P. Krishnamohan Reddy and Balaji Govindappa have approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail in this case.
A bench headed by Justice Parthiwala heard these petitions on Monday. It has also concluded that it cannot intervene immediately as there is a hearing in the AP High Court. However, the bench said that it would inform the AP High Court about the progress of the hearing in this case on the 7th of this month and what decision the High Court had taken.
After that, the bench said that it will hold the next hearing on the 8th of this month. The lawyers on behalf of the three requested the court to provide interim relief without arresting them until then.
The lawyers on behalf of the three accused requested the state government lawyers to give an assurance that they will not be arrested till then.
The Supreme Court directed the AP High Court to take some decision in the ongoing hearing. The Supreme Court said that it is not making any comment on the merits of the case as the decision-making power lies with the High Court.
The bench said that the next hearing will be held after the High Court concludes the hearing and issues orders, and directed the petitioners to immediately file the orders given by the High Court in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court adjourned the next hearing to the 8th of this month.
