Supreme Court rejects AP Govt’s letter on Capital issue

Tuesday, December 24, 2024

The ruling party of AP, YSRCP, tasted a bitter experience regarding the capital issue once again. The Supreme Court of India failed to mention the petition filed by the AP Government to shift the capital.

It is a known fact that the High Court of Andhra Pradesh rejected the AP Government’s plea for decentralization and made three places as capitals- Amaravati(Legislative), Visakhapatnam(Executive), and Kurnool(Judicial). The Bench in turn directed the ruling party to start constructing capital in Amaravati without any further action. However, the AP Govt managed to get a stay from the Supreme Court but it didn’t get the full authority to make three capitals.

Approaching the Apex Court, the AP Govt pinned huge hopes as the court might consider its plea and get a hearing soon and also expected the 7th of this month to come to trial. As today is the 6th, the Judiciary website that displays the cases to be heard for the next day had not listed the AP Government’s petition regarding the hearing. Not just the petition but the Supreme Court failed to mention the letter written by the AP State to consider the case at least. Now that the petition is not listed, Jagan sarkar has nothing to do but to wait for more.

Political experts claim that the case would not come to hear as the Supreme Court didn’t mention it as it lacked interest in the case. Even though it gets to hearing, the sides of Amaravati farmers have higher moral ground than the AP Government as far as the capital issue is concerned. Now that the AP CM Jagan himself changed his words from three capitals to making Vizag the solo capital, it’s clearly a lost case for the AP Government in this issue.
