Speaker Ayyannapatrudu Criticizes MLAs For Leaving Assembly After Signing Attendance

Saturday, March 22, 2025

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatrudu expressed strong disapproval over the conduct of certain legislators during the ongoing Assembly sessions. He criticized some MLAs for attending the House merely to sign the attendance register before leaving, likening their actions to that of “thieves.” Calling the practice unacceptable, he questioned the commitment of elected representatives to legislative proceedings.

His remarks, directed at YSRCP members, created a stir. On Thursday, following the Governor’s address, seven YSRCP MLAs reportedly signed the attendance register and left the Assembly. Taking serious note of the incident, the Speaker stated that such members were not needed in his view and urged them to participate actively in discussions.

He further pointed out that even members who had submitted questions were exiting the House without waiting for the government’s response. Emphasizing that such practices undermine the integrity of legislative proceedings, Ayyannapatrudu reiterated the need for MLAs to engage meaningfully in the House.

To reinforce his stance, the Speaker read out the names of the seven MLAs who had signed the register but were absent from the session.
