The SIT has decided to approach the Supreme Court to take custody of the prime accused former IPS officer Prabhakar Rao in the phone tapping case that created a stir in Telangana. In this regard, the SIT officials West Zone DCP Vijay Kumar and SIT officer ACP Venkatagiri have reached Delhi. A petition will be filed to cancel the relief given to Prabhakar Rao.
So far, the SIT officials have questioned former SIB Chief Prabhakar Rao five times in the phone tapping case and questioned him for about forty hours on five occasions. However, the former SIB chief tested the patience of the officials by not giving answers during the interrogation.
In this context, the authorities have taken a key decision to take Prabhakar Rao into custody as he did not cooperate with the investigation. SIT officials believe that if Prabhakar Rao is interrogated in custodial terms, crucial matters will come to light. On the other hand, the Supreme Court has already issued orders not to arrest Prabhakar Rao until August 5.
In this context, the SIT officials have decided to go to Delhi and file a petition in the Supreme Court. The SIT will inform the Supreme Court that the prime accused in the phone tapping case, former IPS officer Prabhakar Rao, is not cooperating with the investigation. It is well known that many difficulties have been encountered to bring Prabhakar Rao from the US.
If Prabhakar Rao is taken into custody and questioned, the investigating officers believe that more things will come to light. We will have to wait and see whether the SIT officers will get relief in the Supreme Court or not. However, Prabhakar Rao has been misleading the SIT officers so far.
He has said that he had nothing to do with it, that he had only carried out the orders given by his superiors, and that he had not personally ordered anyone to tap the phone. But according to the statements given by the five accused arrested in this case, they have said that they did all this on the orders of Prabhakar Rao.
