The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted on the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to probe into poll-related violence incidents in Tadipatri, Tirupati and Palnadu has identified 33 such incidents in its preliminary report, submitted to the DGP Harish Kumar Gupta on Monday.
The 13- member SIT, headed by Vineet Brijlal has formed four teams each with four members and they probed in each place till late Sunday night. For two days, they collected FIRs filed by local police in each incident. They went to the areas where the riots took place and collected information from the local police, leaders and people of different communities.
Vineet Brijlal has submitted the 150-page report to the DGP and the DGP has already ordered to add some additional sections in FIRs, if found some mischief committed by local police. The Report reportedly included on the need to include new sections in each FIR and also if any new FIRs to be registered.
The SIT also identified that some police officers were negligent even after knowing that violent incidents would happen, by colluding with the local ruling party leader. Cases are likely to be filed against some officials in connection with violent incidents.
The government will send the SIT report to the CEO and CEC shortly. The Central Election Commission will take further action based on the SIT report.
Meanwhile, the officers who were suspended due to being responsible for the violent incidents were replaced by new ones. New DSPs were posted include M Sudhakar Rao in Narasaraopet , CH Srinivasa Rao in Gurjala, K. Ravi Manohar Chari in Tirupati and K. Janardhan Naidu in Tadipatri.
Other postings include M Venkatradi as Tirupati SB CI, B. Suresh Babu and U. Shobhan Babulu as Palnadu Special Branch CIs, K Amit as Karampudi SI, M Pattabhi as Nagarjuna Sagar SI, A Viswanath as Tirupati SB Inspector, M Rama Rao as Alipiri CI and P. Nagendra Prasad as Tadipatri CI.
The Election Commission has issued instructions to the DGP to order all these officers to join duty immediately. The Election ECI made the postings by selecting one from a panel of three officers.
