Shivadhar Reddy Appointed as New Telangana DGP, to Take Charge on October 1

Senior IPS officer Shivadhar Reddy has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. The state government issued orders on Friday, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy handed over the appointment letter to him. Shivadhar Reddy, who is currently serving as the state’s Intelligence Chief, will assume charge as DGP on October 1.
Born in Hyderabad, Shivadhar Reddy hails from Thulekalan village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Ranga Reddy district. He completed his education, including an LL.B. degree from Osmania University, in Hyderabad and briefly practiced law before clearing the Civil Services Examination and joining the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1994.
He has served as ASP in various districts of the undivided Andhra Pradesh and was the first Intelligence Chief of Telangana between 2014 and 2016. The high-profile Nayeem encounter operation took place during his tenure. Shivadhar Reddy also served with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo as part of the UN peacekeeping forces and held key positions as Additional Director and Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). After the Congress government came to power in 2023, he was reappointed as Intelligence Chief, and has now been elevated to the top post of DGP.
