Sharmila Threatens Legal Action Against Jagan

Tuesday, December 17, 2024

The on-going tussle between YS Sharmila and her brother, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has taken a new turn with the private property dispute now turning into an all-time political showdown. In this context, Sharmila accused  Jagan, who heads Andhra Pradesh and is also president of the YSR Congress Party, of having pocketed Rs. 1,750 crore as ‘bribes’ paid by the Adani Group. She has further declared that she will take legal action against him, which has created a storm in the political landscape.

Through a series of biting tweets, Sharmila did not only level accusations against Jagan but also went on to target Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. She accused Naidu of inaction in canceling agreements associated with the alleged bribery or launching an investigation into the matter. Accusing Jagan of burdening Andhra Pradesh with a debt of Rs. 1.5 lakh crore for personal financial gain, Sharmila vowed to escalate the issue in court if Naidu fails to act.

Accusations sparked a lot of debate and increased scrutiny on Jagan’s administration. In a response, Jagan filed defamation cases against media groups Eenadu and ABN, alleging them to have wrongly implicated him in the scandal. All these failed to mitigate Sharmila’s public remarks and her firm decision to file a lawsuit against him.

This sibling rivalry has gradually become one of the major political issues, which highlights the deep schism in the YS family. The allegations have further raised some significant questions on corruption, governance, and accountability in Andhra Pradesh that can metamorphose the political agenda in the state. As the story unfolds, the issue continues to make headway with far-reaching ramifications for the future of Andhra Pradesh’s politics.
