The YSRCP leaders accused in the attack on the Gannavaram TDP office have been caught in the Supreme Court. The bench of Justice Vikramnath and Justice Sandeep Mehta refused to interfere with the High Court orders. However, the accused had previously approached the High Court for anticipatory bail in this case.
The AP High Court advised them that there was no need to come to them and go to the lower court. With this, the 33 accused who are believed to be involved in the attack approached the Supreme Court against these High Court orders. In this context, the Supreme Court bench made it clear on Friday that they too cannot interfere in this matter.
As per the High Court orders, the bench of Justice Vikramnath made it clear that they should approach the trial court for anticipatory bail. Moreover, the bench also gave them a deadline to approach the trial court within two weeks. In this context, the court also ordered the AP government not to take any hasty action in this matter for two weeks.
Moreover, the Apex Court bench instructed the lower court to take a decision regardless of the comments of higher courts. Justice Vikramnath’s bench made it clear that they too were not going into the merits of the case. On February 19, 2023, the followers of the then local MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi attacked the TDP office in Gannavaram. They set fire to a car in the TDP office premises and destroyed the equipment in the office.
Two days earlier TDP leaders lamented MLA Vamsi for resorting to personal attacks on TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and party national secretary Nara Lokesh. Then, Vamsi’s followers reached the TDP office and attacked. During the attack on the office, they tried to attack the TDP secretary Donthu Chinna’s house also.
On this occasion, cases were registered under various sections against the attackers based on the complaint given by the TDP leaders. However, no action was taken against those who committed these attacks during the Jagan government’s tenure.
But after a change of government in the state the police started focusing on this case and the stage was set for the arrest of those who committed this attack. With this, the accused is trying for anticipatory bail from higher courts. Former MLA Vamsi is A 71 in this case.
