Setback To YCP Ex MP Nandigam Suresh In Supreme Court

Friday, December 20, 2024

Former YSRCP MP Nandigam Suresh has a setback as the Supreme Court refused to grant interim bail to Nandigamhim in the murder case of a woman named Mariam. The Supreme Court has adjourned the next hearing to January 7.

A bench comprising Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra heard the bail petition filed by Nandigam Suresh on Friday. However, it has adjourned the case to January 7 for a full hearing. The Apex Court has rejected the candidature of Suresh’s lawyer and senior counsel Kapil Sibal to grant interim bail till then.

The bench mainly mentioned three issues in this case. It made it clear that the charge sheet has not been filed in this case yet and that it cannot take any decision regarding bail as Suresh has not been arrested for 90 days.

The bench also found fault with the fact that the details of the case registered against the former MP in the bail petition were not recorded. When this case was registered in 2020, the Supreme Court questioned why the then government did not conduct an investigation, if an investigation had been conducted, his innocence would have been revealed.

Meanwhile, in 2020, Mariyamma, an SC woman from Velagapudi in Thullur mandal, criticized the YSRCP government. She accused the then Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy of stopping her pension and not giving her a house. In this sequence, the followers of the then MP Nandigam Suresh attacked Mariyamma’s house. Mariyamma died in this clash.

However, even after a complaint was filed with the police at that time, no one paid any attention to it. After that, when the coalition government came to power, Mariyamma’s son met Minister Nara Lokesh and informed him of the details of Mariyamma’s death and the complaint they had given.

Based on that complaint, the Thullur police recently registered a case. A case was registered against Nandigam Suresh and his followers. Nandigam Suresh did not get any relief in this case even in the High Court. The High Court also refused to grant bail. Due to this, Suresh challenged the High Court’s orders in the Supreme Court.

The bench ruled on this occasion that the bail issue will be considered after the charge sheet is filed in this case. Nandigam Suresh’s lawyer Kapil Sibal sought time to argue on the merits. With this, the Supreme Court adjourned the next hearing to January 7.
