The ruling Congress party, which is already facing severe criticism in terms of governance, has now received another political setback. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was not able to retain the Karimnagar sitting graduate MLC seat even after being in power.
CM Revanth Reddy took it as a prestige and probably for the first time a Chief Minister extensively campaigned for the graduates MLC election, even without visiting SLBC Tunnel collapse mishap. He entered the field for the MLC elections in a way that was never done before and even conducted a large-scale campaign.
Moreover, he changed the sitting candidate Jeevan Reddy, who had won during the BRS wave and a senior Congress leader and brought a new person as the party’s candidate.
However, the BJP has won the Karimnagar-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Medak Graduate MLC seat. Chinnamail Anjireddy won with second priority votes. He got a lead of 5,106 votes over his nearest rival, Congress candidate V. Narendra Reddy. The BJP, which had won the Teacher MLC seat from the same districts, has once again proved its dominance in the North Telangana districts by winning the Graduate MLC seat.
The competition for the Karimnagar Graduate seat, where 56 candidates contested, was fierce between BJP candidate C. Anjireddy, Congress candidate V. Narendra Reddy and BSP candidate Prasanna Hari Krishna.
A total of 2,52,029 votes were polled for this seat, of which 28,686 votes were invalid. Out of the 2,23,343 valid votes, 1,11,672 votes were declared as quota votes for victory. In the first priority votes, BJP candidate Anji Reddy got 75,675 votes, Congress candidate Narendra Reddy got 70,565 votes, and BSP candidate Prasanna Hari Krishna got 60,419 votes.
These three candidates got a combined 2,06,659 votes, while the remaining 53 candidates in the race got a combined 16,684 votes. As a result, no one got a quota vote in the first priority votes, so the second priority votes were counted.
In this sequence, except for Anji Reddy and Narendra Reddy, who were in the first two positions, 54 people were eliminated, but no one got quota votes. With this, Anji Reddy, who secured the highest number of votes among the two, was declared the winner.
After the counting of second priority votes, Anji Reddy came first with 98,637 votes, while Narendra Reddy came second with 93,531 votes. Anji Reddy received an additional 22,962 votes through second priority votes, while Narendra Reddy received 22,966 votes.
