Setback for Sajjala Bhargav Reddy in Supreme Court

The Andhra Pradesh state government has begun taking stronger measures against several key figures within the former YSR Congress dispensation, with General Secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and his son, Sajjala Bhargav Reddy, who are currently being targeted. Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy is already in legal quagmire for taking a party office of a TDP, while the younger son Bhargav Reddy is under scanner due to certain controversial social media posts. Bhargav Reddy has approached the Supreme Court to have the cases filed against him quashed.

The state government has been filing cases across Andhra Pradesh based on posts made during the previous government’s tenure. Bhargav Reddy’s name has come up following information from arrested individuals. However, the Supreme Court, led by Justice Suryakant, chose not to entertain his petition and directed him to resolve the matter in the High Court.

During the hearing, Bhargav Reddy’s lawyer, Kapil Sibal, argued that the government is using new laws to target past actions. In contrast, the state’s lawyer, Siddharth Luthra, highlighted the offensive nature of Bhargav Reddy’s posts and his lack of cooperation with the investigation. The Supreme Court has decided to proceed with the case and provided Bhargav Reddy with two weeks to address the issue in the High Court.
