Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has responded to criticism from BJP leaders and BC organizations regarding his recent remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s caste. Addressing the media in Delhi after meeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy clarified that his comments were misinterpreted.
He stated that he did not personally target Modi but only pointed out that the Prime Minister was not born into a Backward Class (BC) community. He further asserted that Modi’s policies reflect a lack of commitment to BC welfare. Revanth Reddy accused Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay of distorting his remarks for political gains.
The Chief Minister reiterated his demand for a nationwide caste census, arguing that genuine commitment to BC welfare must be reflected in policymaking. He highlighted Telangana’s recent caste census as a model for the nation, stating that the collected data would be used to design welfare schemes through a dedicated commission or committee.
Revanth Reddy also dismissed speculation about a cabinet expansion, confirming that the topic was not discussed in his meeting with Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, he announced that the state government would introduce the SC classification bill in the upcoming budget session.
