Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said that he has been concentrating more on the development of Gannavaram Airport and providing connectivity from here to all the important places of the country. He announced that soon a new terminal will be opened in the airport within a year.
Naidu inaugurated approach road at Gannavaram airport and also inaugurated Vijayawada- Delhi IndiGO flight service. Speaking on this occasion, he said that this airport is close to the capital city Amaravati, and he has been giving top priority for the expansion of services from here so as to facilitate the faster development of the state.
He said that soon after the formation of TDP-led coalition government in the state the passengers’ number at the airport crossed one lakh from 85,000 travelled earlier. “We are increasing the connectivity so that the whole country looks towards AP. We are thinking of increasing the international connections from Vijayawada”, he added.
As part of this, Rammohan Naidu reminded that 4 new services have been established within 3 months. He said that a new service from Vijayawada to Pune will be started on October 26 and Visakha- Delhi service on October 27.
Services to Sharjah are currently running and he said that this will be extended to Dubai and Singapore. He said that efforts are being made to increase the number of passengers in the state.
“On behalf of our department, we will work for the all-round development of the state and the development of tourism. We have given special attention to the development of Vijayawada airport. We are increasing connectivity so that the entire country can look towards Andhra” he said.
“We have recently started 2 services to Mumbai, 1 to Bangalore and 1 to Delhi. In the future, we will also expand services to Singapore and Dubai,” he added.
Naidu reminded that 57 airports were built in ten years during the tenure of Prime Minister Modi. He said that we are working towards the goal of constructing 200 new airports in the future. Minister Kollu Ravindra, Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashauri, Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkatarao and Mysore MP Yadhuveer also present.
