Delhi University Professor G.N. Saibaba, who was recently released from jail after being accused of having links with Maoists, has passed away. Saibaba, who had been suffering from severe health issues, died while undergoing treatment at NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. He was admitted to NIMS 10 days ago, but succumbed to a heart attack at 8:45 PM.
Saibaba, who spent a long time in prison, was released from Nagpur Jail on March 7 after being acquitted. He was well-known as a human rights activist, writer, and academic.
He was previously arrested on charges of having close ties with the Maoist movement. The Gadchiroli trial court had sentenced Saibaba and five others to life imprisonment. He served his sentence from 2017 until his release on March 6, 2024.
