Police Issue Notice To Former MP Gorantla Madhav

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is facing a spate of legal issues as a number of its top leaders have faced legal notice. After Nandigam Suresh, Vallabhaneni Vamsi, and Posani Krishna Murali were arrested recently, ex-MP Gorantla Madhav is now in the limelight as he received a police notice.

The Vijayawada Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against Madhav under the POCSO Act for allegedly revealing the identity of a minor survivor in an interview. The case is based on a November 2024 complaint filed by then Women’s Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma. The authorities reacted by filing a case under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and asked Madhav to appear before them for questioning on March 5. The notice was hand-delivered to his house in Anantapur, which escalated tensions in the area.

As speculations run riot that an imminent arrest awaits him, YSRCP supporters rallied at Madhav’s home, waving banners and creating tension. Refuting the development, Madhav fired at the ruling alliance, blaming the government for its targeted action against opposition leaders. Madhav directly defied Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, warning them to “remember their acts” while threatening imminent violence in the state.

Denying all the charges, Madhav said the charges were politically motivated and aimed at gagging YSRCP leaders. Though acknowledging that he received the police notice, he added that he had already made other commitments on March 5 but would either ask for a new date or present himself for questioning with his lawyer. Meanwhile, a number of YSRCP leaders have decried the action, calling it an act of political vendetta against the party.
